TIP: Since you'll be making these for Thanksgiving, you can probably find the candy corn, Fall sprinkles and little candy eyes at 70-90% off if you check the Halloween sales aisle at your grocery store.
THANKSGIVING TURKEY PRETZEL RODS
10 Pretzel Rods
20 small candy eyes
10 chocolate covered peanut butter cookies
12 oz. chocolate chips or chocolate melting bark
50 Candy Corns
10 small orange Reese’s pieces
Fall sprinkles or jimmies
Canned chocolate frosting (not whipped ~ NOTE: canned frosting hardens quickly and is great "glue" to keep in your pantry for other baking projects)
Tube of red decorator icing with tip
***
Lay cookies out on wax paper leaving room for pretzel rods to lay on top of each cookie without touching each other. Lay out 5 candy corn and 2 eyes per pretzel.
Heat chocolate chips in tall glass in microwave for 60 seconds, then stir until all chips are melted. Dip pretzel 2/3 way in melted chocolate and roll to coat completely. Use a spoon to get it covered, if necessary. Shake off excess. Lay each pretzel (chocolate covered end) onto a cookie, pressing down lightly (but be careful not to break the pretzel) so that it sticks to the cookie. Shake some of the Fall sprinkles onto the melted chocolate.
Put 5 candy corns in a fan shape (pointed end next to pretzel) on the cookie around pretzel rod (start with 1 at top of pretzel rod, then 2 on each side). Put a dab of chocolate frosting on the back of the pointed end as glue.
Put the little eyes into the melted chocolate on the pretzel (or use a little dab of frosting if chocolate has hardened). Use some frosting as glue for the Reese’s pieces (on their side) as the beak. Use the red decorator icing to pipe on the wattle. Let it all harden before moving or wrapping in little baggies. (You can refrigerate to harden faster, if you want.)
You can put one at each child's plate on your Thanksgiving table ~ or buy a Thanksgiving themed glass at the Dollar Store, and put the pretzel rods into the glass on your dessert table. (note: I also got the pretty china Fall leaf dinner plates for $1 each at the Dollar store)
