3 slices thick bacon …...............................……..... 1 medium onion, chopped
1 head red cabbage, chopped...................................1 apple, chopped
1/2 cup sugar..........................................................1/2 cup plus 2 TB vinegar
1/2 cup water ………………...............................… dash garlic salt
salt and pepper to taste
1 TB flour (if necessary)

Dice and fry bacon until crisp. Remove from pan. Saute onion in bacon drippings. Add cabbage, apple, vinegar, sugar, water and rest of ingredients (except flour). Cook approximately 45 min. to 1 hour.
(If it needs to thickened, take out about 1 cup [as much liquid as possible]; whisk in flour until smooth. Add back to pan; stir to blend well and simmer about 5 more minutes until thickened.)
Stir in bacon. Serve hot.
