I used my own homemade fresh Cranberry Sauce (and there was orange essence in there). The link to that recipe is at the bottom, but you could also use good quality store-bought, if you want.
Holiday CRANBERRY ORANGE SCONES
2 cups flour (plus more for work surface) ~ you might need a little more, so keep it out
2-1/2 tsp baking powder...……………………………....2-1/2 TB sugar
1/4 tsp salt...…………………………………………………...1/4 cup orange marmalade
6 TB unsalted butter, cold and cut into pieces
1/4 cup whole berry cranberry sauce (try to get as little "sauce" as possible, or the scones will turn pink)
1/4 cup dried cranberries...……………………………….1 egg
1/2 tsp orange extract or essence
5 TB heavy cream (plus more for brushing on top)
***
Preheat oven to 425 ~ line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Put flour, baking powder, sugar and salt into bowl of food processor; add butter pieces and pulse 3-6 times or until mixture resembles coarse meal.
In small bowl, combine egg with cream & lightly beat ~ Add to food processor with meal mixture and pulse a few times until it comes together. Add dried cranberries, marmalade and whole cranberry sauce; and pulse a couple of more times (it should clump together in the center of the mixing container). If it's just too sticky, sprinkle about 1/4 cup more flour over it all; scrape down the sides of the food processor bowl and pulse a few more times to incorporate that flour.
Transfer to lightly floured work surface. Pat the dough into 8” circle. Using a long, sharp knife (might want to dip it into your flour container), cut into 8 equal wedges. Place scones on baking sheet ~ lightly brush tops with heavy cream (can sprinkle with some sugar, if desired). Bake until golden brown (about 10-14 minutes). Let cool slightly on baking sheets; remove to wire rack to cool.

GLAZE: Start with about 3/4 cup powdered sugar and a drop or so of orange essence/extract , adding liquid (orange juice, water, milk, or Triple Sec) 1 tsp at a time, whisking until desired consistency. Adjust by adding more sugar/powder until smooth, slightly thickened. If you glaze HOT scones, it will be a clear, shiny glaze ~ if you glaze them cold, it will be white. Use less liquid for a drizzle. Add your Holiday sprinkles!
