1/4 cup flour per every 4" of sugar cookie dough (so you can do as many as you want ~ also the logs vary in size) ~ plus more for rolling out
colored sugar (store-bought or homemade)
***
Cut the log into 4" pieces (easier to work with). Knead the flour into the dough with your hands ~ then flatten the dough out on a floured board and liberally sprinkle with colored sugar (all one color, or add several colors). Knead the sugar into the dough (you may want to add more sugar, once you see how the dough looks).
Roll the dough out to about 1/4" on a floured board, with floured rolling pin. Cut eggs or flowers with a cookie cutter. Put onto parchment paper lined baking sheets and bake at 350 for 9-13 minutes. Cool on pan for about 3 minutes, then remove to a rack to cool.
** COLORED SUGAR ** Pour a small amount of sugar (about 1/4 cup to start) into a small ziplock-type plastic bag. Add a drop of food coloring. (The more coloring you add, the darker the sugar will turn.) Close the plastic bag and shake it up. The food coloring should start to dye the sugar; add another drop if you want it darker. Keep shaking until all the sugar has been evenly colored. You can keep the colored sugar in a plastic bag or other container. |
